September 11, 2026, marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. This exhibition presents the work of photographers Todd Maisel and David Handschuh, who were working for the New York Daily News. They were among the journalists who rushed to Lower Manhattan on the morning of September 11, 2001, unaware of the tragic events that would unfold.

Featuring more than 60 photographs documenting the attacks and their aftermath, the exhibition is organized into four main sections: Evacuation, Aftermath, Rescue and Recovery, and Grief.

The exhibition also includes objects connected to the events of September 11, including the camera used by Todd Maisel while documenting the attacks. Additional artifacts from the State Museum’s September 11 collection reflect the destruction of the attacks as well as the rescue and recovery efforts that took place.

This exhibition contains images from the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City on September 11, 2001, and their aftermath. Some visitors may find these images difficult to view.
