The New York State Museum is open and happy to welcome you back!
In accordance with new safety guidelines, visitors will notice that we’ve adjusted our hours and days of operation, some galleries and exhibit features are temporarily closed, and we have new safety rules in place. We’ll also be limiting the number of visitors allowed in galleries at one time. Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to stay safe and healthy.
New Temporary Hours
Open Monday through Friday, 10 am–4 pm
Closed Saturdays and Sundays.
Closed all state-observed holidays.
Please help stop the spread of COVID-19 by following these safety rules:
- Stay home if you’re feeling sick.
- Wear a mask covering your nose and mouth. This is required for all individuals over the age of 2 and medically able to tolerate a face mask.
- Properly discard any soiled disposable protective gear in trash receptacles.
- Keep a distance of 6 feet from others who aren’t in your household.
- School groups, tour groups, and other non-family-based groups of more than 10 are currently not accommodated.
- Follow good hand-cleaning hygiene and cough/sneeze practices.
- Please don’t touch exhibits.

Temporary Closures
Discovery Place, South Hall Galleries (including the Mastodon, and Native Peoples of New York), and the 4th Floor Terrace Gallery/Carousel, and some other exhibition features are closed. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
