The Great Lakes Region of the U.S. experienced multiple cycles of glaciation, or Ice Ages, during the Pleistocene Epoch which began about 2.6 million years ago and ended 12,000 years ago. The movements of mile-thick ice sheets across the Earth’s surface had dramatic affects on the landscape and constructed complex geologic deposits. Humans have since built civilizations on top of this geology while interacting and obtaining resources from it. Join Museum Scientist Andrew Kozlowski as he provides an overview of glacial geology and explains how and why it matters.
