The Fort Orange Excavation Film footage by W. Hartigan

This film footage, recorded on December 1, 1970, shows the excavation underway. Archaeologist Dr. Paul Huey led a group mostly of volunteers, including Heldeberg Workshop students. The proximity of the New York State Museum to the Fort Orange site can be seen as the camera pans from the Empire State Plaza to the excavation site. At the time, the Plaza was under construction, and the Cultural Education Center was not yet built.
